
Buffett announced that he planned to give more than 80 per cent of his fortune to charitable causes. He increased the percentage to 99.9 percent in 2020. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation was the principal beneficiary. It was created by Bill Gates, Microsoft founder and his wife Melinda. They focused on education and health in the world. Bill and Buffett have been close to each other since the beginning of the 1990s. The other organizations receiving donations included those that Buffett's 3 children and the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, named after his wife who passed away, which was focused on women's reproductive rights and supported college scholarships. The Giving Pledge was an invitation for wealthy individuals to contribute a large percentage of their money to charitable causes that was created by Buffett and Gates in 2010.
