Lady Starlight, a performance artist, met Gaga at this period. Gaga was signed to Streamline Records by Vince Herbert in 2007, following her performance at Lollapalooza Festival 2007. As an apprentice songwriter during an internship with Famous Music Publishing, which was later bought by Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Gaga later signed a music publishing contract with Sony/ATV. The result was that she was commissioned to write songs for Britney Spears and her labelmates New Kids on the Block, Fergie, and the Pussycat Dolls. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. The album that Gaga released in 2008 "The Fame" received only moderate radio coverage. Gaga went on tour across Europe and in the US to promote her album. However, it was not until her 2009 smash "Just Dance," that widespread attention was given to her music. Gaga suffered a labral tear in her right hip that she had been nursing secretly for a number of weeks in hope that she would be able to continue the tour. After her performance in Toronto Gaga, she was unable to walk and in great pain. She was taken to the hospital, and her tour was cancelled.
